They Played for Their Lives
They Played for Their Lives
As the trains arrived at the Nazi camps, the musicians were separated from the others and forced to play music 24 hours a day. This kept them from being killed. But while they played, they were forced to watch others tortured, and even their own family members escorted to the gas chambers. The musicians had the highest rate of suicide. This piece is inspired by the chilling documentary, “They Played For Their Lives.”
